ISETS '11 International Symposium on EcoTopia Science 2011
INTRODUCTION

In order to realize the sustainable development of a beautiful and prosperous society into the future, it is essential to create a society in harmony with our global environment. This type of ideal society, or EcoTopia, is what we must strive to achieve in the 21st century. In creating such a society, interdisciplinary research that integrates the natural sciences with humanities and the social sciences is of ever-increasing importance, starting with the cyclical use and regeneration of goods, energy, and information and their balance with humankind.

The EcoTopia Science Institute has been launched on April, 2004 as a research center at Nagoya University to realize such an idea, and approved as an official institute attached to the university in April, 2006. This institute is the largest research institute at Nagoya University and consists of the Division of Integrated Research Projects and four Core Research Divisions on Nano-Materials Science, Energy Science, Environmental Research and Information and Communication Sciences. This institute is expected to play a principal role to promote interdisciplinary and integrated research for various problems of the sustainable society.

The EcoTopia Science Institute, Nagoya University will organize the International Symposium on EcoTopia Science 2011 (ISETS '11) for three days from 9th to 11th December at Nagoya University, Furo-cho, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya, JAPAN. This Symposium is the fourth meeting of a series of symposia starting with ISETS05 held in 2005. As a place of discussion and information exchange, we provide a forum on the most recent progress in the fields of interdisciplinary sciences integrating natural sciences, humanities and social sciences as the weft, and also in the fields of nano-materials, energy, environment, information and communication as the warp. The program for the three-day ISETS '11 will include several invited lectures by world-renowned scientists and engineers in the organized sessions with contributed papers as well as general and poster sessions.

We appreciate you for your kind support and encouragement very much.
