œ INTRODUCTION

In order to continue the sustainable development of a beautiful and prosperous society into the future, it is essential to successfully create one that is in harmony with and reduces the burden placed on our global environment.  This type of ideal society, or ecotopia, is what we must strive to achieve in the 21st century.  In creating such a society, interdisciplinary research that integrates the natural sciences with humanities and the social sciences is of ever-increasing importance, starting with the cyclical use and regeneration of goods, energy, and information and their balance with humankind.

The new largest research institute at Nagoya Univ., the EcoTopia Science Institute has been launched on April 1, 2004, and is expected to be a driving force for interdisciplinary and collaboratively research on sustainability issues.  This institute was formed through a reorganization and integration of the following centers.
Center for Integrated Research in Science and Engineering
the Research Center for Advanced Waste and Emission Management
the Research Center for Nuclear Materials Recycle
the Research Center for Advanced Energy Conversion
the Center for Information Media Studies
the Center for Cooperative Research in Advanced Science and Technology
    the Venture Business Laboratory
    the Facility of Incubation
The EcoTopia Science Institute consists of four Divisions for researches on nanomaterial, energy, environmental / recycle, and informative issues.

The International Exposition (http://www-1.expo2005.or.jp/en/index.html) will be held near Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture, Japan from March to September, 2005.  Nagoya Univ. will organize Nagoya Univ. International Forum for Sustainable Society (IFSS-Nagoya05) in collaboration with EXPO 2005 AICHI JAPAN at Nagoya Univ. from August 6-7, 2005.  The EcoTopia Science Institute of Nagoya Univ. will organize a Satellite Symposium of the forum, International Symposium on EcoTopia Science 2005 (ISETS05).  The ISETS05 Symposium will be held at Integrated Building (IB) at Nagoya Univ., Furo-cho, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya, JAPAN, during August 8-9, 2005, following the IFSS-Nagoya05 forum.

The last three very successful International Symposia (RAN95, RAN98 and RAN2001) on eAdvanced Energy Conversion Systems and Related Technologiesf organized by the Research Center for Advanced Energy Conversion and held at Nagoya Univ. are successfully incorporated in the energy sessions with the nano-material and environmental/recycle sessions of this ISETS05 Symposium.  To provide a forum and exchange of information on the most recent developments in the fields of nano-materials, environmental/recycle systems, and energy science, the venue for the two-day ISETS05 Symposium will include several invited lectures from world-renowned scientists and engineers in the nine organized sessions with contributed papers as well as general and poster sessions.

œ CALL FOR PAPERS

Scientists and engineers from any discipline, who are engaged in research, development and technology areas related to ISET05 are invited to contribute papers.  All papers will be presented in English orally (about 20 minutes each including the time for discussion), or as poster.  No translation will be available.  Younger scientists and students are particularly welcome at ISETS05.  Papers may discuss original unpublished work and/or present review.

Those who intend to submit paper(s) are requested to prepare an Abstract (within about 200-words) and to complete the attached Application Form, and send them via e-mail to xxxxx.ac.jp by attaching the electronic files before March 10, 2005.  Authors should include a mailing address, phone, fax, and e-mail address with their abstracts.  The extended abstract should be neatly prepared within the boundaries of 29.7 x 21.0 cm on 2 or 4 sheets of A4 paper, including figures and tables.  Details for preparing the papers will appear on this website under gNotes and Instructions to Contributorsh.  The ISETS05 Symposium Office should receive the extended abstract via e-mail by April 20, 2005.  Authors will be informed by May 10, 2005, of the acceptance of the submitted papers.

All submitted papers will be reviewed for presentation and publication in the conference book or CD-ROM.  The prizes will be awarded to the best poster papers presented by students.
